Atreyu – Show Review – 08/20/03
Band: Atreyu
Date: 8-20-03
Location: The Shelter, Detroit, MI
Underrated, is the best word I can use to describe this band. One of the most innovative new acts, combining, crazy guitar riffs, hardcore screams, and melodic background vocals, blended into the smoothest metal music I’ve ever heard. Frontman Alex has a distinct scream that could peel the paint off of walls, but intertwined with that is the talented voice of drummer Brandon. These guys pack in the crowds with their small underground following of hardcore fans. This show was unlike the last time I saw them, when they opened for cky, this time everyone was there for them. It was almost hard to hear the music because of everyone screaming the lyrics. The crowd was out of control, constantly getting on stage, and diving all over the place. It was insane. I was glad I didn’t bring a camera, although I later found out that I got a photo pass to the show, and could have brought in my nice camera…foiled again. This show was one of the better shows of the summer in my opinion. There is a definite sync between you and the band when you know and love there music, you feel at one with them. They’re all great guys, and I can’t wait for them to come back again.
